Pfalbauten Museum in Uhldingen- Mühlhofen

If you want to experience travelling back to Stone Age and Bronze years in Germany then i recommend you to check Pfalbauten Museum in Bodensee.

The outside view

The archaeologists found some remains of lake dwelling people in the region of Bodensee, Baden-Würtemberg.

The museum is an open-air which means you can remove your masks outside (Covid rules) when you are not checking the inside of stilt houses but do not forget to always follow the 1.5 distance from every individuals.

Here you can find reconstructions of stilt houses or lake dwellings during the Stone and Bronze Age.

How to visit the place?

1. By riding a passenger boat from Konstanz to Unteruhldingen. Note: You will need to tranfer a boat ride in Meersburg. Travel time via Ferry: 1hr

You can also ride a Ferry from the Island Mainau or Konstanz Staad. (It would be faster)

2. Ride a public train from Konstanz to Radolfzell then afterwards ride another train from Radolfzell to Uhldingen.

3. Driving a private car from Konstanz to Uhldingen. (Tip: Riding a ferry boat in Konstanz to Meersburg or in Staad with your car inside might be faster to arrive in the area. )

Secret tip:

Rent a paddle boat to enjoy the view more from the lake area. After watching the place from a boat, check the museum afterwards from inside.

I never thought these old houses can be found in Germany. I thought i was in South east Asian countries

Symbols on top of the houses

You can also find bird symbols and moon on top of the houses. Every symbol has their own meaning.

During the late Bronze years, people did carvings on their houses, voyage boats and things as a symbol for their language, clans and culture.

Voyage boat are the primary transportation for people and fishing before. They are mostly made of Oak trees.

Will i recommend the place to visit? Absolutely, Yes. Outside the museum you can find some good restaurants and a small beach for someone who loves swimming.
